Red Rock Canyon – A Wonderful Sight to Behold
The earth has many unique places that have been shaped by nature and look really nice. One of the places, that happen to be in the US, is the Red Rock Canyon. This is one of the National Conservation Areas of the US which is about 10 miles west of the state of Nevada. It is actually close to the Sin City, Las Vegas, adding to the many tourist attractions that Las Vegas has to offer. It is one of the places you should plan to go when you want to have a vacation or a sightseeing trip.
The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area has 3 main areas: the Lost Creek Canyon, the Spring Canyon and the Calico Hills. From whatever area you are in within this conservation area, you can have a great experience as you see various landscapes and rocks capes that were formed as a result of nature. We will look deeper into these 3 main areas and what they have to offer:
The Lost Creek Canyon – It is deemed to be one of the largest canyons. This canyon runs through the cliffs. The canyon has a dirt road which is 20 miles in length. This road passes through a colourful view of the rock formations of the canyon. Making a trip on this road to view the beauty and scenery of the canyon is worth the while.
The Spring Canyon – This canyon has a beautiful waterfall which looks much better during the monsoon and winter months. This is because there is rainfall and the water flows gracefully. This canyon has been recommended by mainly as a great spot for having lunch picnics. The canyon can be a tourist destination on its own.
The Calico Hills – The view of the Red Rock Canyon from these hills is just awesome. The hills also provide for rock climbing activities. The rocks in this area have a wonderful red colour because they are made from eroded sandstones which are red in colour. The hills have specific trails that can be followed when taking a hike. For a great view of the Sin City and the Casinos that it comes with, the hills will provide great vantage points for this. There is also the Calico Basin within these hills.
There is no need for using hiking or special mountaineering accessories when one wants to explore the Lost Creek Canyon, the Calico Hills or the Spring Canyon found within the Red Rock Canyon. All that is needed is a willing heart and confidence. However, if you intend to scale some of the heights in this area, you may want to train and have the right equipment to do so just to be on the safe side.
The Red Rock Canyon has a lot of beauty which is hidden. Being a rocky desert location, you may come across harmless reptiles and insects. However, there are some insects and reptiles which may be dangerous. It is always advised that caution should be taken when doing these explorations.
